Indonesia is known as a country of mega-biodiversity because of the high level of biodiversity it has, including medicinal plants. Medicinal plants themselves have been used by the ancestors of the Indonesians in everyday life to maintain health. The Center attempt to bring the practice of traditional medicine in line with modern standards. Genetic diversity analysis and the first critical step in the assessment of distribution, population abundance, and threats related to a particular target species are taken. Several products that have been developed such as tobacco extract as antibacterial compounds or Aedes aegypti larvae, jamu/herbal based for anti-atherosclerotic or immunomodulatory activity.

The demographic bonus in 2020 has consequences for the increasing prevalence of degenerative diseases, some of which are chronic and progressive, resulting in a large socio-economic impact. The degenerative disease therapies available today are generally only aimed at reducing symptoms but not stopping the degenerative process itself. The Center works closely with the Center of Stem Cell Production of the School of Medicine UI and PT. Kimia Farma provides a comprehensive treatment with stem cells and metabolite products. The derivative of this collaboration such as the development of cell engineering, scaffold fabrication, development of cell bioreactors, etc for the purpose of drug screening and disease modeling which ultimately leads to regenerative medicine.
Infectious Diseases Biosensor and Customized Detection System for National Health Facility

Indonesia has various infectious diseases caused by parasites or viruses such as malaria, tuberculosis (TB), dengue fever, etc. Biosensors are very dynamic, depending on targets and problems in Indonesia. Therefore, we built a roadmap of biosensors ranging from development research, testing in the laboratory, and working with relevant stakeholders to be able to produce the right prototype. The Center supports the Ministry of Health to intensify research and innovation in detecting, treating, and curing the trajectory of the TB epidemic. A fast and simple detection module is in development altogether with the specimen takeout, monitoring the ongoing treatment digitally, and also providing breath device apparatus throughout the whole national health facility.
